Onam (Thiru Onam) is the Malayali festival celebrated in Kerala. Onam is a harvest festival celebrated in the Malayalam Chingam (Simha / Avani) Month.  In 2019, Thiru Onam is on Wednesday, September 11th.

Onam festival is celebrated to welcome the king Mahabali. As per the popular belief, King Mahabali visits the state of Kerala during the festival of Thiru Onam. Onam is celebrated for ten days. Tenth day of the festival is celebrated as Thiru Onam. During this festival, Kerala people celebrate many events – games, Pookalam, cultural events, dances and singing songs.
