Onam
is celebrated in the month of Chingam, the first month of Malayalam
Calendar. Chingam month is known as Simha month in other solar calendars
and Avani month in Tamil Calendar.
Onam is celebrated
for Ten days. The most important day of Onam (known as Thiru Onam) is
the Tenth day. Festivities actually commence 10 days before this day,
with the preparation of Rangoli (known as pookalam) on the ground in
front of homes.
In 2017, Onam Date is on Monday, September 4th.
